Ms. Joyann Tyson facilitated the Diamonds In the Rough: Building your self-esteem workshop on October 17, 2015. Ms. Tyson is a certified John Maxwell Team Coach and she challenged the ladies to “Shine bright like a diamond.”
Ms. Tyson taught that we must start by:
- Conquering Our Lives
- Letting go of the Past
She explained that a Diamond is incomparable and indestructible; forms from constant heat and pressure.
A Diamond In The Rough is someone (or something) that has hidden exceptional characteristics and/or future potential, but currently lacks the final touches that would make them (or it) truly stand out from the crowd.
What thoughts formed your “identity”? What happened in your past that left a lasting impression on how you see and feel about yourself? The event that happened and your story/interpretation of that event is what shaped how you identify yourself. This can be negative and positive.
- Developing Self-Esteem/Self-Image
- Guard your Self Talk (encourage yourself)
- Stop comparing yourself to others (admiration or envy)
- Move beyond your Limiting Beliefs
- Add Value to Others
- Do the Right Thing, Even if it’s the Hard Thing to Do
- Forgiveness : Make Amends in Relationships
- “ I am a Diamond”
Ms. Tyson ended the workshop by raffling off some books. The ladies left the workshop with a better understanding of what makes them think of and see themselves. They agreed to work on building their self-esteem and image. Some ladies asked that we have another diamond in the rough in the next few months.
